Blog Tour: Interview + Giveaway with Bella Riley + Hope Ramsey

Meet Bella:
Bella Riley has always been a writer. Songs came first, and then non-fiction books, but as soon as she started her first romance novel, she knew she'd found her perfect career.

Since selling her first book in 2003 (under the name Bella Andre), she's written more than twenty "empowered stories enveloped in heady romance" (Publisher's Weekly). Her bestselling books have been Cosmopolitan Red Hot Reads twice and have been translated into German, Thai, Japanese and Ukrainian.

If not behind her computer, you can find her reading, hiking, knitting, or lunching with her favorite romance writing friends. Bella lives with her fabulous husband and children in both Northern California and a ninety-year-old lakefront log cabin in New York's Adirondacks.

Meet Hope:
Hope Ramsay was born in New York and grew up on the North Shore of Long Island, but every summer Momma would pack her off under the care of Aunt Annie to go visiting with relatives in the midlands of South Carolina. Her extended family includes its share of colorful aunts and uncles, as well as cousins by the dozens, who provide the fodder for the characters you’ll find in Last Chance, South Carolina. Hope earned a BA in Political Science from the University of Buffalo, and has had various jobs working as a Congressional aide, a lobbyist, a public relations consultant, and a meeting planner. She’s a two-time finalist in the Golden Heart, and is married to a good ol’ Georgia boy who resembles every single one of her heroes. She has two grown children and a couple of demanding lap cats. She lives in Fairfax, Virginia where you can often find her on the back deck, picking on her thirty-five-year-old Martin guitar.

Q&A w/Bella Riley:
Jamie & Kati: Who is Bella Riley? (author, mother, knitter, international woman of mystery)
Bella Riley:
I'm a mother of two, wife of one, a hiker and swimmer, an avid reader and I love to laugh.

J&K: Tell us what WITH THIS KISS is about [no copying blurb :)]
BR:
In WITH THIS KISS deeply hidden secrets threaten to keep Rebecca and Sean apart despite the fireworks that neither of them can deny. This book is the story of not only their journey to love – but Sean's parents, his brother and his grandmother all finally dealing with the secrets that they've been carrying in their hearts for far too long.

Q&A w/Hope Ramsay:
Jamie&Kati: Who is Hope Ramsay? (author, mother, guitar picker, international woman of mystery)
Hope Ramsay: Well I'm so many people. First I'm a wife, mother, and grandmother. I'm also a small business owner -- my company provides management services to small non-profits. I'm definitely a public affairs junkie. I watch way too much MSNBC, but do I try to keep my political views out of my fiction. I knit. I garden. I play guitar and I'm a huge fan of James Taylor and David Wilcox. And, perhaps most of all, I love, love, love to read fiction.

J&K: Tell us a little bit about LAST CHANCE BEAUTY QUEEN [no copying blurb :)]
HR: A long time ago -- well before I sold any of the Last Chance books -- I got the notion in my head that it would be fun to send an Englishman to the swamps of South Carolina. I guess I was influenced by stories of Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, who ran the British ragged during the Revolution. Or maybe I just loved the idea of a genre smashup that could be described as Oscar Wilde meats Dukes of Hazard.

This idea eventually became Last Chance Beauty Queen, which is the story of Hugh deBracy the twenty-third Baron Woolham and his quest to build a textile factory in Last Chance, South Carolina. Of course Hugh wants to build the factory on land that belongs to the heroine's family. But the twist in this melodrama is that the heroine, Rocky "Caroline" Rhodes, works for a senator who wants her to make certain His Lordship gets the land. Her job depends on making the senator happy. So Caroline finds herself in morally ambiguous territory between her family, her career, and the man who reminds her of all those sexy Regency-period dukes in the romances she's addicted to. The rest of the story is just fun -- taking Hugh to the Watermelon festival where he experiences a demolition derby, a pie judging contest, and the matchmaking schemes of the Last Chance church ladies.

J&K: What can readers expect from you next?
HR: My readers have told me they are anxiously awaiting the fourth book in the series, which is Stone Rhodes's love story. Last Chance Christmas will be available in October 2012 and in this story we also meet a very interesting heroine, named Lark Chaikin. Lark comes to Last Chance to fulfill her father's last request to have his ashes scattered on the 18th hole of the local putt-putt place known as Golfing for God. But getting permission to lay her father to rest proves difficult, and Lark soon discovers a part of her father's past that she didn't know anything about. While she's unraveling the mystery, she falls for the slow talking and manly Chief of Police. And, to everyone's surprise, the chief falls too.

WITH THIS KISS:
Love can find you when you least expect it . . . Fireworks. That's what innkeeper Rebecca Campbell wants. And no matter how close their friendship, she and her former fianc never shared that. Now, with a broken engagement behind her and a promise she's vowed to keep, Rebecca is determined to make a new life for herself in Emerald Lake. She just never expected sparks to fly this quickly . . . Coming home and falling for his little brother's girl wasn't Sean Murphy's plan. Rebecca's sweet smile and kind heart make Sean feel at home-something he's never felt before. But a secret lingers between them, and no matter how powerful their attraction, Sean can't give his heart to a woman he can't trust. Or can he? As the days pass, Rebecca and Sean find it harder and harder to deny their desire. And they are in beautiful Emerald Lake, the perfect place for falling in love . . .

LAST CHANCE BEAUTY QUEEN:
Dear Reader,
Gracious me, my beautiful daughter Rocky sure could use my help. I always knew she wasn't much interested in the local boys - but who'd have thought she'd come home with English royalty?
Trouble is, Hugh wants to buy some of our folks' land. We don't want to sell, but Rocky's job depends on her closing the deal. And though Hugh's obviously smitten, I'm not sure he's right for my Rocky. Oh, he's classy and handsome - and you should've seen the way he judged pies and fixed stock cars at our Watermelon Festival! - but what do we know about him, really? I know I sound like a nervous mother hen, but after forty happy years with my Elbert, all I want is to see my little girl find the same.
Well, time for me to quit chattering and get back to Miss Bray's wet set. Always nice talking to you, and remember: the Cut 'n Curl's got hot rollers, free coffee, and the best gossip in town.
See you real soon,
Ruby Rhodes

Blog Tour: Interview + Giveaway with Cynthia Garner + Stella Cameron

We're major fans of the paranormal, right after historicals of course. There's something dangerously sexy about things that go bump in the night or straight out of tales meant to scare you into staying inside at night. Stella Cameron and Cynthia Garner are here to share their latest releases with us.

WELCOME TO THE BLOG STELLA AND CYNTHIA!!!

Meet Stella:
Stella Cameron is the New York Times best selling author of the acclaimed Court of Angels Series, the Bayou Books and many others. There are fourteen million copies of her books in circulation worldwide. She is the recipient of the Pacific Northwest Achievement Award for distinguished professional achievement and for enhancing the stature of the Northwest Literary community. She lives in Washington State.

Find Stella: Author Site | Facebook | Twitter

Meet Cynthia:
My interest in writing got an early start when my sixth grade teacher told us to complete the following sentence: “It was a dark and stormy night…” With that my love of all things paranormal was born.

By day I’m a mostly mild-mannered Human Resources Manager for a local non-profit organization. I’m originally from northeast Ohio and fled the snow over ten years ago to live in the heat of southeastern Arizona.

Find Cynthia: Author Site | Twitter | Facebook

Q&A w/Cynthia Garner:

Jamie & Kati: Who is Cynthia Garner?
Cynthia Garner: By day I’m a mostly mild-mannered Human Resources Manager for a non-profit company that works with children in the care of Child Protective Services. It’s a lovely place to work with lovely people, and when it’s quitting time I can usually leave without carrying anything home with me, either physically, mentally or emotionally. That’s so important because once I do get home, I get started on my other full-time job, which is writing. If I’m all wired up because of something that happened at work (or something that’s in the process of happening that I know still needs attention), it’s not very conducive to the creativity process.

I grew up in Northeast Ohio in a middle class family with roots in West Virginia. I currently live in Southern Arizona, and absolutely love it! I moved here in 2000, and after five years of having a job that consumed me (60-70 hours/week workload in addition to lots and lots and LOTS of stress), I resigned and took a year to work on my writing career. I published several novellas under the pen name Sherrill Quinn with digital first publishers including Ellora’s Cave and Amber Heat. (My books are still available there.) In 2009 the first of three Kensington Brava books came out, and with KISS OF THE VAMPIRE that just came out February 1st of this year, I have moved to my new home (with my new name) at Grand Central.

J&K: Tell us a little bit about KISS OF THE VAMPIRE and your hero and heroine.
CG: KISS OF THE VAMPIRE is the first book in my Warriors of the Rift series, which is set predominantly in an alternate reality Scottsdale, Arizona where all the creatures of our myths and legends are living next door. They are in actuality human beings who have been taken over by alien entities from another dimension. Tobias Caine is a vampire who was in essence Secret Service in his other life and voluntary came to this dimension in pursuit of an assassin. Nix de la Fuente was born here on Earth of a demon mother and a human father.

J&K: What do you have next in store for readers?
CG: I just turned in a novella that is a prequel to the novels in the series, and it should be released in digital format in May or June. The second novel, SECRET OF THE WOLF, comes out in July, and the third novel, HEART OF THE DEMON, will come out early next year.

Q&A w/Stella Cameron:

Jamie & Kati: Who is Stella Cameron? Author, mother, international woman of mystery.
Stella Cameron: You describe me so well :) How about adding, reclusive, shy but with good coping skills, addicted to my family and crazy about animals. Like to clean, hate to cook. Love to garden and occasionally to draw. Fiction has saved me from sadness all my life. There is nothing I wouldn't at least start reading. I find gems of stories in unlikely places—or perhaps I should write, unexpected.

Above all, I'm a survivor who doesn't believe in blaming the past for present problems. My motto now is, "Get over it."

J&K: Tell us a bit about DARKNESS BOUND and your hero and heroine.
SC: I had written the Court of Angels series set in New Orleans and was amazed by the freedom I felt writing paranormal stories. I was hooked. Drama, love, hate, fear, sympathy, courage, selflessness and the opposite…I was swamped by every emotion. With DARKNESS BOUND I delved into a different area and lived a story with werehounds, werewolves, vampires and my Deseran people who are the abandoned offspring of paranormal parents who decided, wrongly, that these children had no special skills.

My hero is werehound, Niles Latimer, alpha of the Team that lives on Whidbey Island in Washington. The werehounds have gradually diminished in number and there are no females left. Mating between a werehound and any other species presents potentially deadly danger since there is no guarantee that the werehound's mate might not survive being with him. Niles has been assured he could mate with a Deseran and is trying to convince himself he can take the risk for another creature.

Leigh Kelly returns to Whidbey and the cottage her now dead husband left her to start over. Her "chance" meeting with Niles is the beginning of a deeply dangerous and passionate relationship. But both Niles and Leigh have enemies and just being together is a threat to each of them. Werewolves want to wipe out the hounds and the possibility that they may start breeding again is a threat to the wolves who are having their own problems and need to eliminate all opposition.

Niles's dilemma is only more difficult because he comes to love Leigh more than his desire to have children.

J&K: What do you have in store for readers next?
SC: I'm revising DARKNESS BRED, the next of the Chimney Rock Series.

DARKNESS BOUND:
WHEN NIGHT FALLS
After her husband’s tragic death, Leigh Kelly arrives on Whidbey Island determined to start over. Yet the tiny town of Chimney Rock is not as peaceful as it seems. Women have been disappearing, and Leigh can’t shake the feeling that she’s being watched . . . especially at night. Soon, she’s experiencing visions she can’t explain and fighting her attraction to a handsome stranger who seems to know her most intimate desires.

PASSION TRANSFORMS THEM
As the leader of the Team, a pack of werehounds forced to hide their very existence, former special ops soldier Niles Latimer is desperate to prove a man’s heart beats beneath his predator’s body. And Leigh—the mysterious beauty possessing powers she doesn’t yet understand—may be the one woman who can help him. But Niles isn’t the only one who recognizes Leigh’s true identity. Something evil is waiting in the woods—and the hunt has begun . . .

Book Extras: Jamie's Review

KISS OF THE VAMPIRE:
Half-demon, half-human, Nix de la Fuente is accepted by neither and mistrusted by both. Determined to prove she’s more human than not, she devotes herself to solving crimes between the world’s mortals and its most unsavory undead. But her latest case brings her face to face with the one vampire she could never resist . . .

Called in to investigate a string of violent murders, special agent Tobias Caine isn’t interested in rekindling his relationship with Nix. Yet one look and the vampire knows his need for her is as strong as ever. Once, their all-consuming passion nearly cost Nix her fragile hold on her humanity. Now, as their hunger for one another intensifies, exposing them to an unimaginable danger, it could cost them both their lives.
Other Book in Series:
coming 7/2012

Interview + Giveaway with Katharine Ashe

We Hottie Scotties and we sure as heck love secret agents. We're not sure what it is about them that gets our hearts beating triple time. Maybe it's the danger that surrounds them. The lovely Miz Katharine Ashe is here to share her latest release, WHEN A SCOT LOVES A LADY, as well as sneak peeks into the next two books of the new Falcon Club series.

WELCOME BACK TO THE BLOG KATHARINE!!!

Meet Katharine:
The American Library Association’s Booklist named Katharine Ashe among its “New Stars of Historical Romance.” She is a two-time nominee in the Reviewers’ Choice Best Book Awards, and her novella, A Lady’s Wish, launched Harper Collins Publishers’ e-book imprint, Avon Impulse, to rave reviews.

Katharine lives in the wonderfully warm Southeast with her husband, son, two dogs, and a garden she likes to call romantic rather than unkempt. A professor of European history, she has made her home in California, Italy, France, and the northern US. She loves hearing from readers!

Find Katharine: Author Site | Twitter | Facebook | Ballroom Blog

Kati: Hi Katharine! Congrats on your latest release. It’s a pleasure to have you at the blog again. :)
Katharine: Thanks, Kati. It’s lovely to be here. And congratulations to you on your new partnership with Jamie. (thanks!)

Kati & Jamie: Who is Katharine Ashe? (author, mother, runner, European history professor, international woman of mystery...)
Katharine Ashe: Oh, I like that “international woman of mystery.” Yes, indeed.

With my family I’m “Mommy”, “Katie”, and provider of puppy treats. In my office or on my deck I’m happy writer. Out and about I’m runner and café lover. On campus I’m professor of European religious history. And on twitter I’m cookie-aholic.

K&J: How did you pick the title for WHEN A SCOT LOVES A LADY?
KA: As I was planning the book, one day I was listening to an oldies radio station and I heard “When a Man Loves a Woman” by Percy Sledge. It was so right for the hero, Leam, the Earl of Blackwood, I knew in an instant this must be the title.

K&J: Tell us a little bit about Leam and Kitty.
KA: Leam is a lady’s most delectably sinful dream. He is tall and gorgeous in a rawboned Scottish borderlands fashion, with dark eyes that promise seriously scorching passion. As a secret agent of the Falcon Club, in high society he dresses casually, flirts incorrigibly, and is known to still mourn the tragic death of his young wife years ago. In private he is a man of eight languages, four unquestionably trusting friends, two devoted Irish Wolfhounds, but no heart to speak of any longer. He is a poet and a lord and everything he shows of himself to the world is a lie.

Lady Kitty Savege wears a disguise of sorts too. Pretending cool hauteur in society, she has lived her life seeking vengeance on the man who ruined her, but now her heart aches for something more -- for joy and adventure and, most of all, love. She thinks Lord Blackwood is a barbarian, from his loose neckcloth to his roguish brogue. Nevertheless, she can’t manage to stop throwing herself at him every time they have a moment alone together! He’s far too handsome, she’s far too wanton, and when they come together it’s far, far too hot to resist.

K&J: Do you have any writing rituals? (baking Toll House cookies, listening to music, drinking wine...)
KA: I write everywhere and any time I can! So, no, I don’t have particular rituals. When I write I like my desk to be clear of everything but my laptop and perhaps a cup of coffee. But if a scene is pressing desperately at me to be written, those things don’t matter either.

K&J: Plotter or pantser?
KA: I plot every book, with the most intensely emotional scenes central to that plotting. But I’ll change the plan if that’s where the characters take me. They’re in control!

K&J: If Hollywood came knocking and wanted to make WHEN A SCOT LOVES A LADY into a movie, who would you cast in the leading roles?
KA: Oh, this is a tough one. I don’t watch a lot of TV, so I don’t know all the stars out there now, and I’d be sure to pass up folks that are perfect for the roles. Can I leave this one to my readers and let you know?

K&J: Can you give us a sneak peek or tell us something about the next two books in The Falcon Club series?
KA: In book #2, How To Be a Proper Lady, Captain Jin Seton is a former pirate with a very dark past and a lost lady in his sights, and he’ll stop at nothing to find her. The moment I wrote the first lines about Jin in Captured by a Rogue Lord, I knew I had to tell his story, and I knew precisely whom his heroine would be -- Viola Carlyle, kidnapped by smugglers as a girl but fighting mad to be dragged back to England now. Jin is sublimely confident and totally caught off guard by his quarry. Their romance is a seductively fiery battle of wills.

In book #3, How a Lady Weds a Rogue, a hardened spy meets his match in a country miss who demands that he play the role of hero in her quest. But the road may prove more dangerous than she imagined when her un-damsel-like desire for her knight in shining armor and his intoxicating embrace turn out to be the real adventure…

How To Be a Proper Lady is coming Jun 26, and How a Lady Weds a Rogue follows on September 25!

K&J: If you could write an anthology with any 2 authors (dead or alive) who would they be and what would it be about?
KA: A wedding anthology with Liz Carlyle and Lisa Kleypas.

K&J: What are you currently reading?
KA: Maya Rodale’s THE TATTOOED DUKE, released yesterday from Avon alongside WHEN A SCOT LOVES A LADY. It’s soo good!!

K&J: What do your family and friends think about you writing romance books?
KA: I am truly blessed in this. My family and friends are enormously supportive and enthusiastic. They’re always there as sounding boards for plot or character ideas, to brainstorm titles, to “ooh!” and “ahh!” over my covers, to check historical details (many of my friends are professors of history too), to comfort and encourage me when things get challenging, and to pop the bubbly when it’s time to celebrate. They also buy my books, give them as gifts to friends, and recommend them to strangers in bookstore aisles. I thank the Lord every day for their love and support.

K&J: Authors choice.
KA: If a hero from a romance novel came to life and stood right in front of you, what’s the one thing you would ask him?

Kati: Thank you so much Katharine!
Katharine: Thank you, Kati. This has been such fun!

WHEN A SCOT LOVES A LADY:
London gossips are asking: What use has society of an exclusive gentleman’s club if no gentlemen are ever seen to pass through its door?

After years as an agent of the secret Falcon Club, Lord Leam Blackwood knows it’s time to return home to Scotland. One temptation threatens his plans—Kitty Savege. The scandal-plagued lady warms his blood like a dram of fine whiskey. But a dangerous enemy stands in the way of desire, and to beat this foe Leam needs Kitty’s help…

Kitty never wanted to spend her holidays in a wretched country village! With snow up to the windows, escape is nowhere in sight. A roguish Scottish lord, however, is. His rough brogue sends tingles of heat from Kitty’s frigid toes to her chilled nose, but she’s confident she can withstand that. What she cannot control is the reaction of her carefully guarded heart when she discovers this beast is, in fact, no beast at all…

Interview + Giveaway with VK Sykes

Athletes, we love them. Vanessa Kelly, we love her historicals. We've jumped on the suspense train (or at least Jamie has). Smash them together along with Mr. Sykes and you've got a recipe for a sexy story involving an athlete, a heart surgeon and a crazy stalker written by the husband/wife team of Vanessa Kelly (My Favorite Countess) and Randy Sykes. Today they're here to talk about HARDBALL.

WELCOME TO THE BLOG VK!

Meet VK:
V.K. Sykes is really two people - Vanessa Kelly and Randy Sykes, a husband and wife team who write sexy contemporary romance. Randy excels at plot and characterization, but tends to fall down on the job when it comes to that pesky old thing called emotion. That's where Vanessa steps in. She usually writes the sex scenes, too, since Randy is a bit uncomfortable when it comes to that sort of stuff. Vanessa also writes Regency-set historical romance for Kensington Zebra under her own name. You can find V.K. on the web at www.vksykes.com, and Vanessa at www.vanessakellyauthor.com

Find VK: Facebook | Twitter

Jamie & Kati: Who is VK Sykes? (author, international duo of mystery, sometimes masquerades as historical romance author)
VK: All three, actually. VK Sykes is moi – Vanessa Kelly – and my husband, Randy Sykes. Under my Vanessa Kelly name I write Regency-set historical romance for Kensington Zebra. As V.K. Sykes, Randy and I are published with Carina Press and we’re also indie published. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out exactly who I am at any given moment in the day, but drugs or a stiff drink can often help with that. Oh, wait. I guess I shouldn’t have said that! (haha, we are all about the stiff drink here at Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance)

J&K: What made you decide to write romantic suspense together?
VK: We write both contemporary romance and romantic suspense. Our current book, Hardball, is a contemporary romance with suspense elements. We both love romantic suspense and mystery – to read and to write. Even my Vanessa Kelly books usually have at least some element of mystery or suspense. So when Randy and I decided to write books together, suspense seemed the way to go. And for Randy, suspense was manlier than writing all that icky emotional love stuff. He usually leaves that part to me.

J&K: Do y’all have any writing rituals?
VK: Yep. We stay out of each other’s hair as much as possible. You can’t imagine how that helps to make a writing partnership successful.

J&K: Are y’all plotters or pantsers?
VK: We’re both plotters, big time. Story boards, outlines, character bios, GMC charts…you name we’ve done it. We’re both very linear people who like to chart a path forward.

J&K: Which 2 authors would you write an anthology with if given the chance?
VK: Jill Shalvis and Lori Foster.

J&K: How do family members/friends feel about you writing romance?
VK: Once they stop laughing about it, they think it’s pretty cool. But Randy’s sons will not read our books because they do have sex scenes in them. TMI for them, and I can’t say as I blame them!

J&K: Tell us a little bit about your book [no copy and pasting blurb :)]
VK: Hardball is a story of opposites attracting. Nate Carter is an uber-sexy, star baseball player with the world at his feet—big money endorsements, supermodels trailing after him…the whole works. Holly Bell is a very serious and rather shy children’s heart surgeon. Her work is everything to her, and she won’t let anything stand in the way of taking care of the kids who need her. The last person she expects to have a fling with is the brash but charming Nate Carter, and she’s completely flummoxed when she starts to fall in love with him. Nate, in turn, has never met a woman quite like Holly, and he’s very taken with her. But he’s also dedicated to his career and is on the verge of a big trade to a team in another city. That’s a big obstacle between them, as is his reluctance to dive into a committed relationship. Throw in a very sick child who Holly must save, and a crazy stalker, and things get pretty complicated for our hero and heroine.

J&K: Tell us a little bit about your hero and heroine.
VK: Nate is the prototypical bad boy hero – a handsome alpha dog, used to getting his way. But he’s also a really decent guy who doesn’t take himself too seriously. In fact, when he meets Holly he definitely feels off his game. She’s smart and serious, and is obviously well-educated. Nate is a self-made man and although he’d never admit it, Holly makes him feel a bit insecure. Holly actually feels the same thing about Nate, but in a much bigger way. She’s spent almost every minute of her life since high school working to achieve her goal of becoming a heart surgeon. Datin and men have not really been in the cards, and when Nate starts to pursue her, she’s not really sure how to handle him. Throwing those two together was a lot of fun!

J&K: What do y’all have next in store for readers?
VK: We’re releasing another book at the end of February, called Fastball. It’s actually a prequel to Hardball, and is the story of Nate’s best friends, Maddie and Jake. They’re great characters who also face a lot of obstacles – Maddie’s a sportswriter and Jake’s a ballplayer on Nate’s team, so for them to enter into a personal relationship is verboten. Needless to say, they don’t let that stand in their way and that’s when the fun begins. Oh, and Nate appears in the story too, which is kind of neat, we think.

J&K: Authors choice:
VK: If you could have dinner with any athlete on the planet, who would it be and why?

HARDBALL:
After years of hard work and keeping her nose firmly to the grindstone, Dr. Holly Bell has finally achieved her dream: a position as a pediatric surgeon at a prestigious teaching hospital. Children’s lives rest in her skilled hands. That means total dedication to her work and her patients without letting anything or anyone get in the way. And a hot affair with a superstar athlete is most definitely getting in Holly’s way.

Nate Carter, star pitcher for the Philadelphia Patriots, has the world in the palm of his baseball glove. He’s at the height of his game, a west coast team is about to lure him with even greater riches, and the most gorgeous women in town are in full pursuit. Nate has everything he wants, or at least he thinks he does, until he meets the beautiful and brainy Dr. Holly Bell. He’s totally up for a hot affair, and Holly turns out to be the hottest.

But will Holly be willing to play his game? When the lovely doctor starts changing the rules, Nate realizes he just might be playing for keeps.

Interview + Giveaway with Victoria Vane

We love it when authors have sexier alter egos than the one they normally write as. Victoria Vane is no different. She's the sexier side of Emery Lee (Fortune's Son) and today she's sharing her December 2011 release, A BREACH OF PROMISE.

WELCOME TO THE BLOG VICTORIA!!!

Meet Victoria:

A lover of history and deeply romantic stories, Victoria Vane combines these elements to craft romantic historical novels and novellas for a mature reading audience. Her writing influences are Georgette Heyer for fabulous witty dialogue and over the top characters, Robin Schone, Sylvia Day, and Charlotte Featherstone for beautifully crafted prose in stories with deep sensuality, and Lila DiPasqua for creative vision in melding history with eroticism. Ms. Vane also writes romantic historical fiction as Emery Lee.

"Reckless hearts, battling wits, and plenty of steam in a wonderfully well drawn Georgian setting.”- NYT Bestselling author Grace Burrowes

Jamie & Kati: Who is Victoria Vane? (author, history buff, mother, international woman of mystery...)
Victoria Vane: Victoria Vane is the romance loving, sex-writing wicked twin of romantic historical author Emery Lee who was unleashed upon the world late December 2011 with her first erotic historical romance, A BREACH OF PROMISE.

J&K: Tell us a little bit about A BREACH OF PROMISE [no copying blurb :)]
VV: A BREACH OF PROMISE was actually a writing experiment for me that came about during a dry spell between writing contracts and agents. While I had sold and finished my second Emery Lee novel, FORTUNE’S SON, and was continuing to write my little heart out, my publisher had taken a “wait and see” stance on my proposed third, fourth and fifth novels, leaving me sitting impotently on my thumbs. To make matters worse, my agent quit the publishing business altogether, leaving me high and dry.

It was during this frustrating period that a wonderful friend and author Diane Gaston suggested I try writing something short to help bridge the gap until I could sell another of my full length novels. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, I decided to give it a go.

I began by reading- devouring actually- works by bestselling erotic romance authors to learn what they do and how they do it. I discovered authors like Robin Schone, Sylvia Day, and Charlotte Featherstone, who combine beautifully crafted prose in stories with deep sensuality, and Lila DiPasqua who I much admire for her creative vision in melding real history with eroticism.

Armed with what I had learned from these amazing authors, I went back to work on A BREACH OF PROMISE with the goal of writing an erotic level romance my own way— with a well-drawn and emotionally compelling plot, sympathetic characters, witty dialogue, a touch of humor, and scorching heat without the “kink factor.”

Loosely inspired by The Belle’s Stratagem, one of the most popular of late Georgian era plays, the result of my efforts was a Georgian era novella about a broken engagement. In this hot historical novella, I loosely model the relationship of my characters Lydia and Marcus after Cowley's Leticia Hardy and Doricourt. Similar to Cowley’s play is the premise of an engagement contracted between the hero and heroine’s parents when they were very young. Also similar is that my hero and Cowley’s Doricourt have both been many years abroad and have taken their betrothal and betrothed completely for granted. Each returns to England with a diminished appreciation of their own countrywomen compared to the continental beauties.

Cowley’s Leticia is smitten by her erstwhile finance but dismayed by his apparent indifference to her charms and vows to “win his heart or never be his wife.” Her unusual stratagem to win him over is based on the belief that it is “easier to convert a sentiment into its opposite than to transform indifference into tender passion.” These circumstance and sentiments closely match those of my own heroine, Lydia Trent in A BREACH OF PROMISE.

The elder woman patted her hand. “Then it’s no surprise you would feel as you do. But now you are here, Marcus shall soon make amends.”

“I’m afraid you misapprehend my purpose, Philomena. Though it pains me for your sake to say so, I no longer have any wish to marry Marcus. I have come to London only to request an end to our betrothal.”

“But my dear, you act in such haste!”

“Six years is hardly haste, ma’am,” Lydia remarked wryly.
“You should hear him out before coming to such an irrevocable decision. In truth, I take much blame upon myself for not prodding Marcus. Yet he was so single-minded to establish himself with the diplomatic service that I feared pressuring him to marry would only have caused resentment.”

“No doubt!” Lydia agreed. “He expressed as much the night of our engagement, but I was moonstruck. Marcus has never shown me more than polite indifference. I now realize that is not enough for me. In truth, I would almost rather he despised me than merely tolerated my existence.”

Lady Russell puckered her brow. “You would have a future husband despise you? How extraordinary!”

“Indeed, my lady! For antipathy is at least a form of passion! Even negative emotion can sometimes be turned around, but what can be done when no feeling exists at all? I will not wed a man only to live as indifferently as strangers.”

“My dear, given sufficient time…”

Lydia sighed. “For nearly six years I clung to that foolish hope but time appears to have only been my enemy. He truly doesn’t want me. He never did.”

“But my dear, you do not know men,” Lady Russell consoled. “They are undeniably obtuse. The daft creatures never know what they want until it’s placed under their very noses.” She smiled and clasped the young woman’s hand with a conspiratorial look. “You have now come to town, Lydia. Ergo, he will want you.”

“I fear it is not so simple as that. My feelings toward him are no longer engaged.”

“Is that truly so?” Lady Russell broke into a dubious smile. Although Lydia had spoken with conviction, she failed to meet the elder woman’s astute gaze. “Then my dear, it must be my son’s onus to re-engage them.”
But while determined to rebuff the arrogant and conceited Marcus at every turn, my heroine Lydia wages a battle royale only to discover she is defenseless against his counter-strategy of seduction. With scorching sensuality combined with a “Heyer-esque” humor, witty dialogue and colorful characters, I promise a fun and engaging read!

J&K: Do you have any writing rituals? (blasting music, eating cookies, drinking wine...)
VV: I am totally and completely a slave to my muse! I am only productive while listening to 18th century music and do almost all my writing late at night. I often stay up until 2 or 3 AM.
If you could write an anthology with 2 other authors, who would they be and what would it be about?

Can I include dead authors? If so, it would be my dream to write with Georgette Heyer. I adore her wit and style. While she is best known for her Regencies, my favorites are her Georgian era titles. As for living authors, I would love to collaborate with a brilliant fellow Georgian era author Lucinda Brant.

J&K: What do you have next in store for readers?
VV: Thanks so much for asking! I am incredibly excited to share my next erotic historical novella, a racy, rollicking Georgian romp entitled A WILD NIGHT'S BRIDE coming in late April from Breathless Press

Click on cover for an excerpt
What happens when a struggling actress and a grieving widower come together in a night of unbridled debauchery orchestrated by a bored and machinating rake?

She’s a lonely lady down on her luck: Phoebe Scott, alias Kitty Willis, is a struggling Covent Garden actress with a bruised heart and a closely guarded secret.

He’s steadfast and eminently respectable: Sir Edward Chambers, Ned to his intimates, is guilt-ridden over his beloved wife’s death and avowed to live out a rustic and mundane life … of celibacy.

With the devil in charge — there will surely be hell to pay: Devil in disguise, Viscount Ludovic DeVere, is determined to return his best friend, Ned, to the land of the living. His meddling machinations result in a night of mind-blowing passion after which “dull dog Ned” awakes to find himself in the King of England’s bed!

A BREACH OF PROMISE:
When charm and persuasion fail...only seduction remains...

On the night of her betrothal, Lydia Trent receives just a taste of what ecstasy will be at the hands of her fiancé…and then he leaves her wanting. After waiting six years, and tired of being neglected by her exceedingly reluctant husband-to-be, Lydia decides to break it off.

When Marcus, Lord Russell, receives Lydia’s letter requesting a release from their contract, he is stunned by her audacity. Confident he’ll have her eating out of his hand with his usual wit and charm, he’s determined to repair the damage. However, the headstrong woman she’s blossomed into is equally determined to thwart his every effort to win her back.

Marcus discovers, in spite of her conviction to end the union, Lydia is more responsive to his touch than he ever imagined. He just needs to get her alone to unleash the promised passion he sees within his wanton virgin. Marcus will use any tool in his arsenal to exploit her weakness—his kisses, his hands, his mouth…her own body. In short, he’ll just have to ruin her!

Blog Tour: Interview + Giveaway with Lori Toland

WELCOME TO THE BLOG TOUR:
We love kickass heroines, seductively sexy heroes and explosive attraction between the two. Lori Toland's latest, SOUL SEDUCTION, has all three.

WELCOME TO THE BLOG LORI!!!!

Meet Lori:
CEO by day, erotic romance writer by night, Lori Toland lives in Orlando where the summers are hot but the romance between her characters is even hotter. Writing since the tender age of 13, Lori somehow finds time to play video games and watch movies while taking care of her beloved cats and a husband who will forever be her hero.

CAUTION: This post contains an R rated excerpt. Proceed at your own risk...

Jamie & Kati: Who is Lori Toland? (author, cat lover, international woman of mystery)
Lori: I ask myself this question every day. LOL. I'm definitely the author, although that is sort of amazing to me. It's hard to believe I've been working in the pub business for 3 years now. I'm also a very active cat parent, along with my wonderful husband, and this season catnip mice are all the rage. I'm not so much the international woman of mystery. I think I'll leave the whole international thing up to my hubby. He's much better at the whole time zone change than I am.

J&K: Tell us a little bit about SOUL SEDUCTION.
L:
Demon slayer meets human and falls in forbidden love with him. Ashlee shouldn't be attracted to Luke, because he's human but she inexplicably is. Luke seems to be everywhere Ashlee is, which makes battling her lust for him even more difficult, but when he's in her dreams, it's the one place she can have him and her seduction may lead her to pay the ultimate price.

J&K: Tell us about your hero and heroine.
L:
Ashlee is a kick-ass demon slayer, wishing she could find another slayer to fall in love with and become mated to but demon slaying and working every shift she can at the hospital is hard on the love life. Candidates for the job of boyfriend never stick around for very long but Luke is different.

Luke is the hot neighbor who has been tasked with checking in on her, which he believes means involving himself in every part of her life. That includes following Ashlee on a demon slaying mission. He exasperates her to no end, but she can't deny the lust and attraction between them for long.

J&K: Do you have any writing rituals? (blasting music, drinking wine, complete silence...)
L:
I love to write in the morning because the house is quiet and I have a cup of coffee by my side. Oftentimes I am surrounded by my furbabies. They try to mummify me in my blanket. It's hard to move and get that second cup of coffee. Which I need now…

J&K: What can readers expect from you next?
L:
Well, definitely a second book from the Slayer's Mate series, with Ashlee and Luke again. There are so many big surprises in store there. My next slated release however is The Long Con, m/m suspense erotic romance. I just finished my first edits on that and I'm really excited I revisited Tony and Bradley. The chemistry between these characters is so white hot!

Thank you to Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance for having me stop by! :)

SOUL SEDUCTION:
Ashlee Bennett has her priorities straight. Fighting demons is at the top of the list until she meets her sexy neighbor, Luke Byrne. Even though he is human, she can't stop dreaming about his buff body and sexy grin, until her dreams turn to nightmares.

Her world is turned upside down when Luke follows her one night but instead of being afraid, he is only more determined to stand beside her and fight. Ashlee knows she needs to keep her distance from Luke, not just to protect her virginity but her heart as well. But Luke may be the only one who can save her from the night, and her dreams.

He looked as good as he did every time I saw him, except now he wore a green polo shirt. His grin held little apology as he said, “Sorry.”

He wasn’t being insincere, just mischievous. It reminded me of grade school when Bobby used to pull my hair and then apologize when I cried. “It’s all right,” I said, spying what was inside his bag. “Went grocery shopping?”

“I picked up a few things,” he said amicably, but then a silence stretched out between us. I got my key out, wanting to say so much more but not knowing where to start. “I see you did too.”

Oh my God. I covered up the side of my bag, even though I knew he’d already seen the big yellow rooster with Cocks-A-Lot emblazoned on the side. I really had to have a word with Terry about his packaging. “Uh, yeah.” Way to go. You’re really wowing him with the witty commentary.

He shifted his bag to dig for his house key. “So what’s in the bag?”

“I don’t really know,” I said slowly as my cheeks heated. Luke raised his eyebrow. “My friend owns the shop, and he was just getting rid of some stuff.”

“That’s great,” he said. “Would you like to try those out with me?”

“I can’t just leave,” I protested as the cool evening air hit me. “I came with a friend.”

He rounded on me, and I nearly ran into him. “You mean your boyfriend? Do you want to stay with him? Just say the word, Ash.”

The possessive tone in his voice ticked me off. “What the hell, Luke? I don’t even know you, and you’re acting like you fucking own me.” But even as I said the words, I wanted him to grab me, hold me, and take me however he wanted. My lust for him clouded my ability to say no.

“Ash,” he said gruffly, “all I think about is having you.” He moved forward as he spoke, and I stepped backward, keeping my distance until my back met a wall. I knew my control around him was shot to hell, and I couldn’t trust myself. He snaked his hand into my hair and roughly grabbed the strands. He angled my head so I couldn’t look away. If I were able to breathe, I would have hyperventilated.

“Don’t.” My plea sounded weak, and I doubted he even heard me.

“I can’t help myself,” he said and kissed me gently. It was the lightest of pressure on my lips, until he coaxed them apart. When my tongue met his, I was tentative at first, but Luke took charge and claimed my mouth.

I was strong enough to pull away, to tell him no and kick him in the nuts if he didn’t stop. But I didn’t want to. I let myself drown in his kisses. I was so wrapped up in what he was doing to me with his mouth, I barely noticed he had lifted me up and held me against the concrete wall.

He settled his hips between my legs and rocked them, pressing his cock against my clit. The only thing keeping him from fucking me was the thin barrier of our jeans. I spiraled higher, and my pussy clenched, desperate to have him inside me.

He pulled his lips away from mine, and my vision whited out. My clit pulsed faster and faster, and I accidentally banged the back of my head against the hard concrete wall as every muscle in my body tensed.

I shook from the intensity of my climax, my teeth grinding together. He leaned in and kissed me, claiming my mouth with his tongue again. Then he broke our kiss and whispered, “You are mine, Ash. Don’t doubt for a second that I will own you. All of you.”

I quivered, my lips parting, ready for more. I felt like we were frozen in time, and I would have spent forever there, memorizing his face.

Interview + Giveaway with Heather Long

Hullo all you wonderful people! Not too long ago, Kati read a book called Marshal of Hel Dorado and loved it. It was a bit X-Men-ish and throw in some Captain Tightpants and you've got a fantastic start to a new series. Today, Heather Long is stopping by to share her latest release, Cassandra's Dilemma which involves two males and one woman. A polyamourous story. A total 180 from Marshal of Hel Dorado. We love The Sexy here at Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance and Heather has come to share it with y'all today.

WELCOME TO THE BLOG HEATHER!!!

Meet Heather:
Heather Long lives in Texas with her family and their menagerie of animals. As a child, Heather skipped picture books and enjoyed the Harlequin romance novels by Penny Jordan and Nora Roberts that her grandmother read to her. Heather believes that laughter is as important to life as breathing and that the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus are very real. In the meanwhile, she is hard at work on her next novel.

Find Heather: Author Site | Twitter | Facebook | Blog

Jamie & Kati: Who is Heather Long? (Author, mother, animal lover, international woman of mystery)
Heather: Heather is an overworked, overtired, and overcommitted author who bit off a lot more than she can chew in the last several months, but to be honest…I don’t think I’d have it any other way. Being a mom is probably my hardest job, but ultimately it’s the most rewarding. My mini me is my loudest and most enthusiastic cheerleader. I am just days away from turning in my thesis and completing my master of business administration. That’s a huge whoop whoop for me, because it means after eighteen months, I won’t have homework on top of deadlines, day job and my mini me’s dance commitments.

As for the rest, I’m definitely an animal lover. Nearly every animal in my home is one that I found as stray (including an emergency rescue in the middle of a downpour on a busy road) or provided a home for. We’re of the opinion that the animals in the neighborhood have marked a path to my door that says, “Need a home? Scratch here and bark for Heather!”

J&K: Tell us a little bit about CASSANDRA’S DILEMMA. [no copying blurb :)]
H: Cassandra’s Dilemma is a book that took me on more than a little bit of a journey. The first draft of it was written in 2009 while my daughter swam. I am a huge fan of urban fantasy and in most of those books, you’ll find that witches, vampires or werewolves have come out into the world, but we never actually ‘saw’ that happen, it was always a ‘previous’ event. So I wondered how would a species introduce itself and thus Cassandra Belle was born.

The name was a natural fit, because she’s named for Cassandra of Troy, the prophetess who wasn’t believed. From that kernel of an idea that story evolved and what was originally an MF love story developed into a poly amour when Jacob walked onto the page. He’s a bit of a forceful personality and when Helcyon showed no signs of bowing out, I had to rethink how we were going to do this.

J&K: What book or author brought you into the romance genre?
H: I don’t know that there was one exact book that ‘brought me in.’ I’ve been reading romances or had them read to me since I was little. My grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and so she used to read to me from her Harlequin Presents. I grew up listening to stories by Penny Jordan, Carole Mortimer, Nora Roberts and more. I’ve been exceptionally fortunate to meet two of the ladies on that list. When I was nine or ten, I read my first Harlequin and learned that the characters didn’t quite take naps the way my grandmother said they did (*wink*) and that book was Escape to Desire by Penny Jordan and I was hooked.

J&K: Do you have any writing rituals? (blasting music, drinking wine, complete silence...)
H: Those tend to vary a little based on the book that I am working on, but typically my writing day starts between 4 and 4:30 in the morning. I get up, let out the dogs, make coffee and all of us head out to the garage. I have a little portable desk out there, I crank up Pandora radio’s epic soundtracks channel, flip open the laptop and start writing. I write between two and three hours every morning like that with a break to get the mini me off to school. But that’s when my mind is freshest and the words really flow.

J&K: Plotter or pantser?
H: Yes, I’m a bit of both. I usually start out with a fairly solid idea; jot out a synopsis that takes me from beginning to end and highlights the turning points or at the very least a blurb. Then I dive in and write. For me, stories are organic so they don’t always travel the path I mapped out in blurb or synopsis.

J&K: If Hollywood came knocking and wanted to make CASSANDRA’S DILEMMA into a movie (a super sexy movie), whom would you cast?
H: Hrm this is super tough. For Jacob, I think I would go with Karl Urban. Cassie would need to be someone who struck a happy middle between Rachel Weisz (I actually had her in mind when I started writing this) and Scarlett Johansson. (That's right people, Kati found a mash up of these 2 actresses.) As for Helcyon, I think they’d need an unknown but someone who could do for green eyes what Ian Somerhalder did for blue.

J&K: How do you pick names for your characters?
H: Character names come from a lot of different places. I think Jacob’s name came from my daughter reading the Twilight series at the time while Helcyon came from the idea that he was going to be called Helo for a while, but I didn’t like the way that ‘read’ on the page. Cassandra as I said earlier earned her name from her place in Troy. Other characters just show up, most of the time, they have a name. Every once and a while I have to stretch and look names up look for meanings and then see what I come with.

J&K: If you could write an anthology with any author (dead or alive) who would it be and what would it be about?
H: Um…all of them? No, seriously. I’d say of the authors I love, I would love to do an anthology with Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong and Nalini Singh about shifters. Those three women are definitely among my favorite authors list. I also wouldn’t mind doing an anthology for fun with Mel Schroeder and Nikki Duncan, something saucy and sassy, maybe set in a piano bar. Yes, I know, a little odd!

J&K: What can readers expect from you next?
H: This is going to be an excitingly busy year for me. I have two more Fevered Hearts novels coming out (Brave Are the Lonely which is Fevered Hearts #2 releases in March). I have this series of sexy shorts coming out from Decadent beginning this summer about Marines. I am currently working on a superhero novel for Carina and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I am cavorting in my own version of a play land of stories and characters. I love playing in so many different worlds, genres and getting to know the characters.

J&K: Authors choice.
H: Do you prefer authors who stick to the same genres or do you enjoy experimenting in different genres if you already like the author?

J&K:  Thanks Heather for hanging out at Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance!
